Motions, the latest release from Plural (James Johnson Jr) is further testament to the diversity of his process, and the depth of his soul. Subdued bass tones and ethereal key stabs, encapsulate the groove of some heavy drum programming. Phantom Traveler is that classic – Washed over key stabs and sub-bass driven grooves lace this whole thing up, and keeps pressure on the floor. Each track that follows keeps the same subtle intensity (mellow madness). Four tracks, all noteworthy and crate-ready – Motions, takes a step outside the defined, and expected – to provide a refreshing look into the sound that defines the Dayton techno scene, and provides more of that ‘signature sound’ we know and love.
